Ron from Rod & Custom has been in and around the motor industry for over 35 years. Ron completed an apprenticeship as a panel beater in Sydney, after finishing his apprenticeship he worked as a tradesman at a local workshop called Burwood Auto Repair.
After a 12 month stint at Burwood Auto Repair, Ron decided to start living the Australian dream; he got married, bought a house in St. Mary's NSW and opened his first workshop. He built this business up over the next eight years employing around 20 people. He sold this shop in the early 80's to retire and he moved out to a five acre property in the Penrith area.
He was idle for about six months but soon found himself getting very board with retirement, he noticed a workshop near-by which was not traveling so well since the death of its manager, Ron thought it would be a good low key business to own, so he approached the owner in regards to buying it, which the owner agreed to.
Within 12 months he had extended the workshop and grown the business to a staff of 22 and a fleet of seven tow trucks. Ron ran this business for 18 years with many changes along the way; he bought the property next door, and built more extensions and employed more staff, he then sold this business in 2004, to try and retire again.
As you can see Ron has been involved in building cars and doing conversions his entire life; he has also built two spaced frame sport sedans, which he raced for a period of time.
Ron moved to the Gold Coast in 2004, where he started playing with rods as a hobby. He found himself paying far too much for the components he needed, so he started importing his own parts, he soon realized there was a large market for more affordable hot rod components, at realistic prices in the Australian market.
Ron started going to swap meets and then started his own website called "Parts for Hot Rods" selling hot rod components.
Their aim is to help make Hot Rodding more affordable and sell hotrod components at great prices.
