Tony Carter of Carter Hot Rod Components has been in and around the hot rod scene since he was only 16 years old. Starting his career as an apprentice at True Colour Restorations, back in 1983, when they were in a smaller factory in Barry St, Bayswater, Victoria. He then went to work with Ray Aldrick and Paul Fatling, specializing in rust repairs, panel beating and spray painting on some of the best show cars in the country. After a short stint there he went onto work at Custom Panel Craft as a 3rd year apprentice, cutting the roof of Volkswagen's, Mazda's and BMW's making them into convertibles. When Tony left Custom Panel Craft he went to work for Street Image doing chop top conversions and show quality paintwork daily.
During this time Tony did top chops on a '36 Ford Coupe '34 Ford Coupe, '32 Ford Coupe, 'A' model Ford coupe and a '40 Ford Pick up. Tony also gained vital experience in tubing cars, cutting cars in half to build stretched limos, coach building new polished aluminium racing car bodies/vintage hill climbers, full rotisserie restoration services, on pre 1948 cars and motor bikes to a concourse winning level. In 1990 Tony opened his first shop called All Model Resto's later known as Just Restorations, working from his home in Kilsyth, Victoria.
Tony now specializes in pattern making and design work for his new business called Carter Hot Rod Components, based in Maryborough, Qld. All of Tony's components are of original design, and most of all "100% Australian made". All of Tony's products are fine sandcast aluminium, producing an excellent finish and with tight tolerances, ease of polishing and machining in mind. Some of Tony's current range includes: -32 and '36 Ford and '34 Chev Carter Windscreens, -CHRC Shotgun Scoops, -Palm Headlight Posts, -Diff Covers to suit 9" Ford, Jag and Borg-Warner, -Beehive remote Oil Filters When Tony was an apprentice at True Colour at 16 years of age, he found himself getting hooked on hot rodding, and now he is hooked for life, hot rodding has kept Tony in work and his family of 6 in a house with food on the table for the past 25 years. Tony's wife of 19 years Rina, son's Danny (19), Nick (15), Luke (13) and daughter Billi (11), have also found themselves knee deep in the hot rodding scene. Tony is now building his own 1932 Ford roadster. He has made most of the car himself to date including the chassis patterned from original, full stainless wrap around dash, windscreen frame, finned Rocker covers, beehive remote oil filter, 9" Hali Hat Diff Cover, Palm head light posts, full aluminium hard top roof etc.
